Facilitated music sessions for LGBT people and their friends to explore sound, rhythm and creativity in a supportive, fun environment. Mixed ability: beginners welcome! These sessions are aimed at people wanting to explore creative music making within a group context. Warm up exercises and improvisation techniques, many inspired by John Stevens' manual 'Search & Reflect', will be introduced to encourage a free approach to playing/singing. No previous knowledge of musical terms or techniques is required. We will explore sound and rhythm in its broadest sense, outside of any particular musical style - think "free improvisation" i.e. experimental, challenging, unusual, refreshing, playful. Bring any musical instrument/s (or not) that you like. There will be ample time for tea breaks, sharing snacks and chatting to each other also! Percussion instruments will be available. Feel free to bring amplification if you require it. SoundsQueer is a not-for-profit project that is currently unfunded. To cover administration and travel costs a donation of between £3-£8 per workshop would be appreciated, depending on your income, though participation is not dependant on funds; people with empty pockets welcome!!! Maybe bring some food to share instead, or offer a warm-up exercise! The venue is wonderful, but currently not wheel-chair accessible - apologies for that. Visit www.soundsqueer.com for more info.
